The Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering (AMBILE) had the honor of hosting two distinguished intellectuals and literary figures of the Sindhi language, Niaz Panhwar and Taj Joyo along with Shoukat Chachar on date 08th April, 2026. Their visit marked a significant moment of engagement between leading literary minds and cutting-edge language technology initiatives being undertaken in Sindh.
Upon their arrival, the guests were warmly received by Amar Fayaz Buriro, Director of AMBILE, who briefed them on the vision, mandate, and strategic objectives of the Institute. The discussion emphasized AMBILE’s role as a pioneering institution dedicated to integrating the Sindhi language into modern technological ecosystems, particularly in the domains of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and digital linguistics.
A comprehensive presentation was delivered by Rabail Aziz, showcasing the Institute’s achievements, ongoing initiatives, and future roadmap. The presentation highlighted flagship projects including Bhittaipedia, a globally recognized digital knowledge repository on Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, and the development of a large-scale Sindhi WordNet aimed at structuring semantic relationships within the Sindhi language.
In addition, the guests were introduced to AMBILE’s innovative work in Sindhi speech technologies, including Text-to-Speech (TTS) and Speech-to-Text (STT) systems, as well as various computational tools designed to facilitate Sindhi language processing across digital platforms. These initiatives reflect the Institute’s commitment to ensuring that Sindhi remains relevant and accessible in the rapidly evolving AI-driven global landscape.
During the visit, Mr. Niaz Panhwar and Mr. Taj Joyo were also taken on a detailed tour of the AMBILE Language Laboratory and Recording Studio. They observed ongoing recording sessions being conducted for AI model training, including voice datasets and linguistic corpora essential for developing high-quality speech and language models. The state-of-the-art facilities demonstrated AMBILE’s capacity to produce technologically advanced language resources rooted in Sindhi’s rich literary and cultural heritage.
The distinguished visitors expressed deep appreciation for the visionary efforts of the Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Archives Department, Government of Sindh in establishing and supporting such a unique and forward-looking institution. They acknowledged that AMBILE represents a vital step toward the preservation, promotion, and global dissemination of the Sindhi language through modern technological means.
The visit concluded with a shared commitment to continued collaboration between scholars and technologists to further strengthen the linguistic and cultural foundations of Sindh in the digital age.
