The Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering (AMBILE), Hyderabad, hosted an orientation workshop focused on Sindhi Language Modeling for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) on June 20, 2025. The workshop brought together academic experts and aspiring students for an immersive experience in AI-driven linguistic innovation for the Sindhi language.

The workshop was graced by the presence of Dr. Azeem Ayaz Mirani, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology, and Dr. Phuloo Sunder Meghwar, Assistant Professor, Department of Sindhi Language and Literature from Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU), Shaheed Benazirabad. They were accompanied by a delegation of enthusiastic students from the Department of Information Technology: Mr. Ahsan Ali, Mr. Muhammad Danyal Javed, Mr. Ahsan Anwar, Mr. Shahzad Ali, Mr. Hasnain Raheem, Mr. Muhammad Yousif, Mr. Hajan, Ms. Ayesha Khan, Ms. Aneela, and Ms. Urooj Fatima.

Mr. Amar Fayaz Buriro, Director of AMBILE, warmly welcomed the guests and introduced them to the ongoing projects and digital initiatives at the Institute. Mr. Rabail Aziz facilitated a guided tour of the Language Laboratory and AI-based linguistic tools developed by AMBILE.

In his introductory remarks, Mr. Buriro expressed deep gratitude to the distinguished faculty and students, highlighting the Institute’s contributions and challenges in language data management and NLP infrastructure building. He emphasized the role of local languages in the age of AI and the significance of preserving and promoting indigenous languages like Sindhi through advanced computational methods.

Dr. Azeem Ayaz Mirani encouraged the students to adopt a product-oriented approach in their learning and professional growth. He noted that institutions like AMBILE provide unique opportunities to explore real-world applications of AI in linguistics and can serve as a strong foundation for future innovations.

Dr. Phuloo Sunder Meghwar shared insights into the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. He pointed out how the synergy between language, literature, and computer science students at AMBILE is contributing meaningfully; especially in the ongoing Sindhi WordNet development project, where SBBU’s Sindhi language & literature students are playing a key role.

During an interactive session, Mr. Buriro further elaborated on AI models in text and voice segmentation and inspired students to engage with language technologies to serve their mother tongues. He emphasized that in the digital era, indigenous languages can only survive and thrive if the younger generation takes active ownership using emerging tools of AI.

The second technical session was led by Mr. Abdul Razaq Mangrio, AI Engineer at AMBILE, who delivered an insightful briefing on AI data modeling for Large Language Models (LLMs) in Sindhi. He conducted practical exercises with the students on front-end and back-end web development in the context of AI applications and motivated them to explore diverse avenues in computational linguistics.

The workshop concluded with a note of appreciation to all participants. It was announced that selected students from the visiting batch will be engaged in ongoing AMBILE projects and will receive further specialized training at the Institute in the near future.

This collaborative initiative underscores AMBILE’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of language engineers and AI practitioners dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Sindhi language and culture.
