Karachi (17 February 2026) A productive and forward-looking academic meeting was held at the College of Languages, Literature & Culture, Ziauddin University Karachi, to explore avenues of mutual collaboration for the preservation, promotion, and technological advancement of indigenous languages, particularly Sindhi, in the contemporary AI-driven era.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Amar Fayaz Buriro, Director, Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering (AMBILE), Hyderabad; Ms. Hina Khan, Academic Coordinator; Mr. Zahid Yasin, Lecturer; Ms. Moomal Chandio, Lecturer; and Ms. Dua Bushra, Lecturer from the College of Languages, Literature & Culture, Ziauddin University Karachi.
The agenda focused on the possibility of joint research and initiatives related to Sindhi language stereotypes, linguistic representation, and cultural preservation. The discussion, however, extended to broader prospects of institutional collaboration for safeguarding indigenous languages, documenting folk wisdom, and strengthening cultural identity in the face of rapid technological transformation and industrial modernization.
Participants emphasized the critical importance of preserving mother languages in the digital and cyber age and highlighted the evolving roles of academic and research institutions in ensuring linguistic continuity, cultural relevance, and intergenerational knowledge transfer.
Mr. Amar Fayaz Buriro presented a comprehensive overview of AMBILE’s pioneering initiatives, including Sindhi WordNet, AI-based linguistic tools, and indigenous language chatbots. He underscored the need for collaborative academic engagement to equip students with contemporary language-technology skills and enable them to contribute meaningfully to the future of society through research and innovation.
Ms. Hina Khan appreciated AMBILE’s efforts in advancing language engineering and expressed keen institutional interest in developing structured collaborative initiatives. Valuable academic insights were also shared by Mr. Zahid Yasin, Ms. Moomal Chandio, and Ms. Dua Bushra regarding the role of the college in initiating programs aimed at strengthening mother languages and promoting their preservation through teaching, research, and community outreach.
It was mutually agreed that, following Eid-ul-Fitr, a delegation from the College of Languages, Literature & Culture, Ziauddin University Karachi, will visit AMBILE Hyderabad to organize a series of joint activities, including orientation sessions on language engineering for students and faculty members. The meeting also resolved to formalize institutional collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) after Eid and to undertake collective initiatives for language preservation, promotion, and cultural sensitization. For achieving these objectives, collaboration with the Sindhi Language Authority and other relevant stakeholders will also be pursued.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Amar Fayaz Buriro presented AMBILE newsletters to the respected faculty members. In return, Ms. Hina Khan presented a commemorative souvenir to Mr. Buriro as a gesture of goodwill and shared commitment toward building futuristic foundations for projects focused on language and cultural preservation, promotion, and global dissemination.
The meeting marked a significant step toward strengthening academia-industry collaboration in the domain of language engineering and reaffirmed the shared vision of both institutions to safeguard indigenous linguistic heritage while leveraging emerging technologies for its global recognition and sustainability.
