Hyderabad, 11th October 2024: A seminar on the topic “Sindhi Language and Folk Wisdom in the Age of AI” was successfully organized by the administration of Shamsul Ulema Allama Daudpota Library Hyderabad in collaboration with the Lincoln Corner at the library. The seminar featured Mr. Amar Fayaz Buriro, Director of Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering, as the keynote speaker.
The event attracted an audience of more than 50 students from the English, Sindhi, and Computer Science departments of various universities. Among the notable attendees were renowned literary figure and former Secretary of Sindhi Adabi Board, Mr. Nafees Ahmed Nashad, and Mr. Suleman Abro, organizer of the SFA Library Network.
Mr. Nashad opened the session by emphasizing the significance of the seminar’s theme, discussing how the Government of Sindh is taking proactive steps to preserve and promote the Sindhi language across various platforms. He then introduced Mr. Amar Fayaz Buriro to deliver the keynote lecture.
During his lecture, Mr. Buriro spoke about the Sindhi language, highlighting its rich heritage that dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization. He explained how the ancient folk wisdom embedded within the language offers invaluable insights that need to be preserved for future generations. He also elaborated on the ongoing efforts at the Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering, particularly in the field of AI and machine learning for the Sindhi language. Mr. Buriro shared how students from different universities are actively participating in various natural language processing (NLP) projects aimed at advancing the Sindhi language in the digital age.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Basharat Baloch, Director of the Shamsul Ulema Allama Daudpota Library, who expressed his gratitude to all participants and attendees for their engagement and contribution to the event’s success.
This seminar marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to safeguard Sindhi’s linguistic and cultural heritage while integrating it into modern technological advancements.
