A comprehensive training workshop on the Importance of Sindhi WordNet and its Proper Data Entry System was successfully conducted on June 03, 2025, at the Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering (AMBILE), Hyderabad.

The workshop was attended by final-year students from the Department of Sindhi Language & Literature, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU), Shaheed Benazirabad. The participants were accompanied by Prof. Dr. Ameer Ali Shah, Chairman of the Department, and Dr. Phuloo Sundar Meghwar, a respected faculty member.

Mr. Amar Fayaz Buriro, Director of AMBILE, conducted a detailed briefing session on the Sindhi WordNet project. He explained the significance of WordNet in the context of Natural Language Processing (NLP), describing it as a foundational component for building systems in Sindhi akin to what Grammarly provides for the English language. He further demonstrated the data entry interface and explained the process of linguistic tagging, covering aspects such as parts of speech, gender, tense, verb associations, and derivational morphology of Sindhi words.

Supporting the practical component of the training, AMBILE’s Data Processing Assistants, Mr. Rukhsar Khaskheli and Mr. Mustafa Keerio, engaged students in group-based activities, allowing them to apply their learning in real-time. Students showed remarkable enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity, grasping the interconnectedness of Sindhi vocabulary not only in terms of meaning but also in structural and functional relationships.

During the concluding session, Director Institute, Amar Fayaz Buriro expressed his appreciation for the dedicated participation of the students and extended special thanks to Prof. Dr. Madad Ali Shah, Vice Chancellor of SBBU, for his continued support and visionary commitment to involving students in meaningful linguistic projects like Sindhi WordNet.

He highlighted the significance of the ongoing collaboration under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SBBU and AMBILE, which seeks to ensure that the Sindhi language thrives across educational and academic domains.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from the Director of AMBILE, reiterating the institute’s commitment to providing a nurturing environment for students to contribute to the advancement of Sindhi language technologies, particularly through active participation in the Sindhi WordNet project.
