The Sindhi language is set to make a significant leap into audio technology. Google and the Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering have planned workshops for December 2023 and January 2024, aiming to incorporate the Sindhi language into Google’s “sentiment analysis” system. This system is designed to interpret emotions and impressions from pictures.

An online meeting was recently held between Ms. Madhurima Maji, Program Manager of Google’s Crowdsource in Asian languages, and Mr. Amar Fayaz Buriro, Project Director of the Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering. The meeting focused on using the Sindhi language in Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) program and scheduling a workshop for January 2024 to understand emotions from images and collect related data.

Additionally, a detailed discussion took place regarding the current corpus of the Sindhi language in speech technology. It was noted that the unique sounds, tone patterns, and structures of the Sindhi language have not yet been fully developed, preventing the immediate opening of the community aspect (i.e., Crowdsource). To address this, a major online meeting is planned for December 2023. This meeting will involve program managers from various regions, along with the director of the Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering from Sindh. The goal is to resolve technical aspects swiftly and devise a strategy for involving the community.

The strategy will enable the Sindhi community to read the given text sentences, allowing the machine to undergo mechanical training based on these sounds, ultimately integrating the Sindhi language into “speech technology.”
